Honeywell Wins Big Contract for Airbus's A350

Bloomberg reports that Honeywell International of Morris Township, New Jersey has landed a major 20-year contract on the Airbus A350. Honeywell is among the best at addressing the pneumatic and electrical systems in large aircraft. In addition the contract may also reflect the increased competitive nature of dollar-denominated work. In theory, the same work done in entirely in Europe would have cost around $22.4 billion assuming the Euro remains around $1.40.

Honeywell International reports that as many as 1,300 business jets will be delivered to buyers around the world with a significant number going to Asia and Europe. European Leaders Call for Action to Curb Euro Climb

Reprint courtesy of:
The Independent

European politicians and business leaders demanded action to limit the rise of the euro after the currency hit a new record high against the weakening US dollar yesterday, potentially threatening exports and manufacturing jobs across the continent. The French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, renewed his call for an urgent interest rate cut by the European Central Bank, while Airbus said it would need to find additional lay-offs to meet its restructuring goals if the euro did not fall.

Space Segment to Run Its Own Conference Program on "Space Day"

Compared to 2006, the space component at the ILA 2008 will expand even further. This growth underscores ILA's position as a leading international space trade fair.

What is completely new for 2008 is that industry visitors can expect their own, high-powered conference program. On Thursday, May 29, 2008, "Space Day," the "Space Pavilion" will serve as an information center and meeting place for making contacts with space experts from around the world. Panels featuring top-flight international experts will discuss national and international space developments. A significant side program for the international visitors will be the planning phase. On the other trade days (May 27 and 28) the Conference Center will also be available for panel discussions and presentations on civil and military space applications.

In 2006 the ILA caused a sensation with a newly created "Space World", at which numerous international space interests exhibited. ILA 2008 Space World will be bigger and even more international. We cordially invite companies, space agencies and organizations from all over the world to join us in "Space World" 2008 where they can present their projects and product, services and interests side by side with partners and competitors, and a large specialist audience, the media, and the general public.

ESA, DLR and BDLI will present current and future German and European space programs in the impressive setting of the "Space Pavilion." The Columbus launch at the end of 2007 or early 2008, the strategic plans of European governments, and the European Space Agency Council of Ministers Conference planned for 2008, will provide the highlights. A moon mission may be on tap as the central theme of the Space Hall.
