| EXPO Canopy at LIGNA+ |
At LIGNA+ 2007, energy promises to be an even hotter topic than it was in 2005. Fossil fuels such as petroleum and natural gas are in limited supply, whereas wood continually replenishes itself and, when burned, ultimately has a neutral effect on CO2 levels.
Wood as fuel will be showcased underneath the Expo Canopy within the Forestry sector of the show, while a number of conferences and special presentations will also examine the topic. Examples include:
- Business and Export Forum for Wood Energy
- Wood to Heat the Future
- Wood Fuel Logistics
- Energy Production Live
- Entrepreneurial Competence Center
- NRW Forestry & Wood Cluster
- Biomass Farm

LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2005 concluded its 2–6 May 2005 run on an extremely positive note: the Hannover Fairgrounds hosted 100,000 attendees and 1,857 exhibiting companies on 1.4 million square feet of display area. Notably, attendance from outside Germany increased to 43,600 (2003: 40,100). The show's new concept—which included a sharpened focus on the skilled trades (wood crafts) and introduced many theme pavilions—was met with widespread approval by attendees, exhibitors and journalists.

The U.S. contingent was comprised of 40 exhibiting companies and 5,700 attendees. "In the U.S., we also have a major trade fair serving this sector, but it is nowhere near as international as LIGNA+," noted Kenneth R. Hutton, Executive Vice President of the Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America (WMMA). "Only in Hannover do we get to meet customers from all over the world who are particularly important to our suppliers of special tools for the solid wood working sector."
